AR Measure

There are times when you suddenly need to measure the width of a gap, or the height of a piece of furniture or an item, right? I bet not many people actually have a ruler or measuring tape at home. And even if they do, haven’t you ever had trouble finding them or found it a hassle to get them out? Or maybe hardly anyone carries one around with them.

That’s where apps that let you measure using just your smartphone come in.
You don’t have to go out and buy one or search for it—it’s right in the palm of your hand, so you can use it right away. If you want to measure lengths precisely, please do purchase a ruler or measuring tape. But if you just need a rough estimate, please give it a try.

Features

This app offers the following features:

  • Measurement (measure the distance between two points)
  • Screenshot
  • Turn on the phone’s flashlight
  • Unit conversion (cm ⇔ inch)
Using ARCore

This app uses ARCore, a Google platform. It only works on supported devices.

About App Permissions

This app uses the camera function. You must grant permission for the app to use the “Camera” function in the app permissions.
When you first launch the app, you will be asked, “Allow AR Measure to take pictures and record video?” Select “While using the app.” After that, you will not be asked again. If permission is not granted, this app will not launch.

How to Use
  1. Preparation: Detecting a plane
Once you’ve launched the app, slowly move the camera while hand is displayed to capture a flat surface—such as the floor or a desk—near the object you want to measure. Make sure the area is as well-lit as possible. If it’s too dark, the app may not be able to detect a flat surface.
When multiple white circles appear on the screen and the “+” button at the bottom of the screen becomes active plus on, you’re ready to measure.
  2. Measure the distance
•Place the first point: Align the yellow dot point in the center of the screen with the point where you want to start measuring, then tap the plus on button at the bottom of the screen.
•Place the second point: Move the camera to the point where you want to finish measuring, align the yellow dot point with that point, and tap the check on button.
•View the results: A yellow line connecting the two points and the distance between them will be displayed on the screen.
  3. Adjust the measurement points
•To fine-tune a point you’ve already placed (the yellow sphere), tap that point.
•The point will become movable; use the yellow dot point in the center of the screen to indicate the new position, then tap the check on button again to lock it in place.
  4. View or copy details
•Tap the distance label displayed on the measured line to open a details panel at the bottom of the screen.
•Here, you can check the exact measurement, or tap the copy button to copy the value to the clipboard.
  5. Useful features
•Reset: Tap the reset button in the lower-right corner to clear all measurements.
•Screenshot: Tap the screenshot button in the lower-left corner to save a photo of the current measurement screen.
•Light: Tap the flash OFF button in the upper-left corner to turn on the flashlight, making it easier to take measurements even in dark places.
  6. Settings (Menu Button) You can change the following settings by tapping the menu button in the upper-right corner.
•Units: You can switch between centimeters (cm) and inches (in).
•Vibration: You can enable or disable vibration when you tap a point. However, vibration must be enabled in your Android OS settings.
•Help: You can view this page.
